Artwork and apple orchards

Our Abstract Art Kiwi Crate fun today making a mobile.
 Success!
 Luke working on his mobile.
Luke has a unique mobile hanger
We also had plenty of supplies to create 5 more color block paintings.
Even Amy-19 and Laura-17 got in on the fun.
Luke and Kim have each made a "block" painting, so they decided to add their own unique creative touch to their paintings.
 The finished artwork!
This past Monday we headed to the "pick your own" apple orchard and farm.
The trees were bent over with so much fruit.
Honey crisp is our favorite...and we were able to pick A LOT.
Some of the best apples are at the very top of the tree.
 Luke-8
 YUMMY!!
 Fifty three pounds of apples.

Gracie filmed herself on the was down the slide. LOL!
Even Daddy made it down the slide.
Dad taught Kim to feed a horse.

 I loved the chicks.
Happy Autumn, everyone!

Color Block Painting

This week's Kiwi Crate is modern art.  Today we made a color block painting.
The kids loved the fact that the crate had a real canvas for them to paint on.
First we used tape to make blocks on our canvas.

I challenged the kids to paint with the four colors of paint without letting the same color touch.
 Luke getting down to business.
Peeling away the tape.
 Project complete.
The kids love the little easel that holds their paintings.
Great job, Kim and Luke!

Experiment Saturday

Place a bar of original Ivory soap onto a microwave safe plate or bowl...
We used a glass pie plate
Microwave for about 60 to 90 seconds.  We needed the full 90 seconds.
There is something amazing going on in there.
 WOW!!  Totally cool!
 It has an amazing texture.

Luke then continued to do more experiments.

Pablo Picasso

We got a sneak peak into our September Kiwi Crate...the subject was modern art. Well, I got the book Picasso by Mike Venezia from the library and when our Kiwi Crate arrived I was so happy to find a little activity about Picasso in the included magazine.
I was worried that Kim and Luke would be a little too old for the Kiwi Crate, but they are loving every activity included in the monthly box.
